Don't know the answer to that one, suggest you enquire at Toshiba's
support site.

ii) The present HDD appears to work fine except for the
occasional clicking, during which time the OS intermittently
freezes. I've noticed that if I lift the laptop and knock it
against the desk surface (not too hard, obviously), that's
enough to eliminate the clicking, and get everything working
again....until next time. Does that sound like textbook HDD
failure? I've done a memtest memory check and there were no
errors. When I try to run Scandisk, eventually the clicking
will re-appear and I get a BSOD.
Yes, sounds classic HD impending failure. Unlikely to be fixable
economically.

Just wanted to thank you for your help mate. I guessed at the two
screws, and got it right first time. They release a small plastic flap
in front of the PCMCIA port, which instantly reveals the end of the
HDD. It's in a metal cassette with a little handle which makes it
easier to eject than a tape from a car stereo.

HDD Model number is: MK4021TGAS. It only has a 2MB buffer which
surprises me (I knew it was only a 4200RPM drive). I'm replacing it
with a Western Digital 60GB HDD. 5800RPM. I don't see the point of
paying for faster given the age of the notebook (over two years) and my
particular needs. And fingers crossed XP will reinstall. :)

Posting the above as much for the archives sake too, in case anybody
else finds themselves needing to replace an M10's HDD.

Thanks again.
