Your idea was spot on, one of the banks of memory was getting very hot and
removing it allowed the laptop back into life again. Now it's a hunt to find
suitable memory for it as although it takes Sodimm cards, there are so many
variations, 144 and 200 pins etc and not all of the 144 pin type is
compatible with Tosh's.
