Re: Problem with laptop fans

Got a brand new Acer Cetrino laptop recently. The problem I'm having is that
every 20 minutes or so the fans on the laptop are kicking in(like it's
working hard)...this might be acceptable if the lid was open, but it's doing
it when the lid is closed and supposedly in hibernation. I unistalled the
Acer power management utility and used the windows power management but it
made no difference.

Is there any setting I should be looking for to stop the thing?

My fairly recent Acer Centrino laptop doesn't have this problem. It is set to switch to Standby rather than Hibernate when the lid is closed.

The only slightly weird thing is that if I close the lid with the machine running, it appears to go into Standby, but about 40 to 50 minutes later (the time may be much more than this - never measured it) there is the sound of fans, CD etc whirring up, then a bleep and silence. As far as I know this only happens once! Maybe it is the change from Standby to Hibernate?

In normal use the fan fires up at intervals depending on how hard the machine activity is. Heavy processing on a hot day and it's every 10 mins or so. At idle but with occasional triggers to keep it alive, it's much longer; in fact the machine is beside me now and has been silent for almost 2 hours.

All the settings are as delivered except that I've set it to go to standby and hibernate after a much longer period when plugged in.
