Industrial computer

I'm working on a control project where a computer has to run 24/7 for at least 6
months at a time. The system will actually be very undemanding and the computer
will only have to spit out a handful of short RS485 messages about once per
second.

I'm thinking that a machine designed more for use as a server would probably
fit the bill. Has anyone any comments or suggestions?
