(Anyone know what TB and others do with application/octet-stream??)

Whatever they are configured to do, but in the case of Thunderbird,
configuration to deal with digital signing usually means installing the
Enigmail addon. This still leaves the issue that you would never know
you needed it because of the way TB deals with signed messages.

I like TB less and less.

ubuntu supplies 3.0.8 as the lasted in the repository; enigmail (at least 1.1.2) only works on 3.1.

Anyone know of any other mail and news clients that will (a) work on both linux and XP, and (b) be capable of keeping a network-wide database of settings and news articles? (TB's sole merit to me has always been that I can stop reading news under ubuntu here in the study, and pick up on the XP box downstairs where I left off)
