Re: Virtual box versus vmware?

trying the alternatives if there are mature ones that have
advantages.

It's been a while since i switched and i can't remember all the details. But what makes VirtualBox better than VMWare:

1) with VMWare, to get the window to the size i wanted it, i had to mess about with custom screen resolutions in the XP registry. In VirtualBox, with "guest additions" installed, i just resize the window the same way as any other window - and the XP desktop resizes with it.

2) I don't really use this, but VirtualBox has got a really neat "seamless" mode - where the windows desktop window disappears and the windows app windows appear on your desktop in the same way as native app windows. The windows taskbar appears at the bottom of your desktop, as in windows (and can be made to auto hide).

3) copy and paste works between windows and linux (although, unfortunately, not select and middle button paste). This may work on VMWare too, i can't remember.

4) overall VirtualBox seems to fit in as a linux app better than vmware does. There's no buggering around with configs etc when you upgrade it to a new version, like with vmware.

5) vmware stopped working on me one day - see a post to this newsgroup from several months ago, as far as i remember. VirtualBox just worked, so i ditched vmware.

I think there are one or two other things, but i can't remember right now.
