No, surely the Vic was a 6502 POS?

Yes, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_VIC-20

Yeah, the Vic certainly used the 6502.

I had fun, not long ago, disassembling the game i wrote when i was working for Thorn EMI Video Programmes in 81/82 (River Rescue), working out how i'd designed it and trying to recreate something like the original source code, complete with comments. Luckily the object code is kicking around on the internet in a couple of different forms.

I never finished the job of recreating the source - although i did a fair chunk of it (and maybe one day i'll get round to doing the rest) - but it was an interesting exercise. I was amazed how easily it all came back to me, over 25 years after seeing it last.

There's a good set of Linux tools available for the job - Vice, a Vic emulator, 'recomment' a 6502 disassembler, and 'ca65' a 6502 assembler.

I always wished i'd kept a copy of the source code - which i commented very comprehensively.

I also wish i could remember the manufacturer of the minicomputers i started programming on, at Reuters, in 1980. They used the IBM 360 instruction set and they were known as the "SGS", which stood for "second generation slave", but i can't remember the manufacturer or the model name/number.

I can remember what the front panel looked like and what i think are the last two words of the bootstrap (1e00 0000), but that's it! They operated as a pair - with one of the pair having drum storage and the other doing the comms.

Programming was so much simpler in those days! ;-)
