Thanks for the many responses. Here are the answers to some questions:

I can only boot from floppy (and hd).

I have long ago maxed out my RAM slots: 192M is all I'll ever have.

I am not running a DNS server myself.

If I don't want to take the hd out, am I ever going to get a modern
distro on it?
