Move boot partition from sda4 to sda1
Though fairly computer literate, I am not yet Linux literate. I have
just added openSuSE x86-64 to my XP system when replacing my M/B, with a
view to migrating XP from dual boot into Virtualbox 1.6.2 (VB) so that I
can avoid a reboot when changing systems and, long term, get the
benefits of 64-bit computing.
In what I thought a good idea at the time, I have sda partitioned:
sda1 - XP "C:", to initially avoid the hassle of moving XP - though I
see VB has links to "migration" apps and info
sda2 - /home, to make upgrading/changing easier
sda3 - /export, a partition to hold distributed backups with another
system and for easy exchange of files
sda4 - /
So, when I get XP running under VB and I am happy with it, I thought
that I would copy the content of sda4 to sda1 (via a TrueImage partition
restore as part of a full system backup - belt and braces mode :-) ),
edit the sda1 fstab to reflect the move, edit GRUB parameters to delete
the XP entry and change the openSuSE references to sda1, reboot, delete
sda4 and expand sda3 to use the freed-up space.
I also have other XP and openSuSE partitions on sdb (such as swap) which
may be modified later.
The questions:
Is this feasible and, if so, what have I forgotten?
Is there a better way to do it (I would prefer to not mount sda1 as
/export/xxx)?
TIA for any advice.
