Does that person not know the answer?

A lot of people, including me, only read USENET once a day. This suggests
that (a) a fit interval to wait before reposting is at least a day and (b)
that USENET isn't the best place to ask questions that require an
immediate answer.

I'd suggest a reasonable interval as at least a week and preferably two. I recall being advised in an FAQ that a decent interval between reposts in the same newsgroup would be a month, but that may have dated from the time when Internet bandwidth was restricted by the number of 2400' tapes that would fit in a pickup truck.

The programing language groups suffer from multi-posted demands for
information that the user, typically somebody too lazy to do their own
homework, could have found for himself with a 'net search or by reading a
book. These are often repeated less than an hour later along with exactly
your sort of "why doesn't anybody help me" comment.

U.c.o.l is read by several people who also read programming groups,
so you, the OP, should expect the reaction you've just got if your posting
activities match the same pattern.

And whining about being put right doesn't help a bit. For every person who takes the time to point out a mistake there are a thousand who silently drop the poster in the bozo bin. Whining about it just adds another few thousand.
