I'm back to the problem described above - doh!

In that case you might be better off with a mITX system with a free PCI
slot, but I'd highly recommend getting one of those posh DVB cards with
at least 2 tuners. I've got 2 cards and I quite often record from both
at once. There are some nice mATX cases too, which should give you an
extra PCI slot. You also need to take the sound quality into account:
some cheaper boards have really ropey sound and I had to install a sound
card in mine; luckily it has 3 PCI slots + AGP which is taken up by a
Matrox card because they have good TV out via DirectFB. They're the only
card I know of which can sync deinterlaced video with the TV-out instead
of having to use a deinterlace filter, but I suppose that's become
irrelevant with LCD and plasma.

As well is the IR remote problem described in a message elsewhere what I'd
really like is a motherboard with HDMI output but they seem to be few and
far between. I'd like this because it seems to be a bit of a pain trying to
interface video through one connector (DVI say, or even Scart) and the audio
through a different set of leads especially when the telly specs on line
leave out vital information like this (yes, I need to buy an up-to-date
telly as well). Add to this the problem with ensuring that good linux
drivers can be obtained for the hardware and it gets quite difficult putting
a system together.

I've more or less decided to wait until the technology catches up to what I
want at a price I'm prepared to pay so I haven't really looked into this for
around six months or so.
