Heh, well once you're used to it, it doesn't seem so hard! Besides in
this case I cheated enormously, I booted my core duo mac, linked it to
the new core 2 duo machine via a network cable, booted that from CD
and rsynced the disc across, changed the name and fired it up. I then
had to correct a few mistakes I'd made on the first machine that
involved recompiling half the OS but that happened overnight without
any real intervention from me and wasn't strictly necessary.

The initial install however went smoothly on the "donor" machine, and
when I priced up an equivalent mini-itx machine the mac looked pretty
good. Damned small and looks nice too, plus if I ever want shot of
it, they'll be fairly easy to sell with mac-os reinstalled.

The core 2 duo machines are just about fast enough to do 1080p video
playback too, a little jerky but the sound is in sync, which it wasn't
on the core duo machines. Not that I'm interested in that though,
just playing with it.

The previous machines made good vmware servers BTW, much quicker than
my P4 3GHz. The discs aren't too shabby speed-wise, from previous
experience with laptop-type disc I thought they'd be slow, but SATA
seems to have sorted that out.

If you do get one, try to make sure you get all the RAM you want
pre-installed, getting into the machines is hard, they're not designed
to be pulled apart without special tools.
