[Resolution limited in Ubuntu]
I appreciate that. However I used to do Unix a long time ago (15yrs)
so I am not completely clueless. Anyway, editing xorg.conf doesn't
seem to have made any difference. Any other suggestions?
Which section did you edit? If you just added the resolutions to the
Screen section(s) - and remember the default resolution you want must
come first on each line - it may not be enough. You may also need to
add or change HorizSync and VertRefresh options in the Monitor
section. If prompted for these settings by the package manager are you
sure you entered something appropriate for your monitor instead of
saying it was limited to 800x600 (which it probably chooses as a
reasonably safe default)?
OK, solved it. I found the monitor option in the GUI config was set to a
generic monitor. I changed it to a monitor from the list with a similar
spec to mine. Now I get 1024*768. The GUI prog has edited xorg.conf to add
the stuff you mentioned above automatically.
thanks all for the help
