I appreciate that. However I used to do Unix a long time ago (15yrs) so I
am not completely clueless. Anyway, editing xorg.conf doesn't seem to have
made any difference. Any other suggestions?
Which section did you edit? If you just added the resolutions to the
Screen section(s) - and remember the default resolution you want must
come first on each line - it may not be enough. You may also need to add
or change HorizSync and VertRefresh options in the Monitor section. If
prompted for these settings by the package manager are you sure you
entered something appropriate for your monitor instead of saying it was
limited to 800x600 (which it probably chooses as a reasonably safe
default)?
