No. I'll give it some thought, but maybe setting up DNS on our network
is over due.

If you take a look at the manual for bind, and decide to scream and run away
from the syntax, I can provide you with a script I wrote to mangle a hosts-style
file into the appropriate zone files for your network.

On that basis, I have created
http://www.jimhowes.org.uk/simple-canned-namedserver.tar.gz

You would be extremely unwise to run any of that on a machine that is already
successfully set up as a nameserver. It may or may not work on Fedora Core 2,
because I have stripped out a load of network-specific (to this network) crud
from it, but if you have a box with bind 9.something on it that isn't doing
anything worthwhile, read the readme, hack around with the config files, and
start named, and see how you go.

I've forwarded this post to myself at work so I can review your code.
Bind did make me want to hide in a dark cave for a long time, but I
persevered, and with the help of several web sites I now have something
that works. It may not be right, it may not be elegant, but it's doing
the job.

When I finally get shot of these Windows machines I'll take bind off the
machine. It's only ten /etc/hosts files, and I know how to manage those!

Thanks for your help, and I hope to learn, at least a little, from that
tar.gz too.

Justin.
