Like you, my LAN is all on static IPs. Setting up one zone isn't hard. There is a benefit to running a DNS - you can use it as a name cache. Simply set it up as authoritative for your domain and to forward all other requests to your ISP (or other) servers. Then you point all hosts on your LAN at your own DNS and it will forward requests for which it is not authoritative and cache the replies.
