DHCP and DNS updates

I have a SuSE 9.3 based system that is generally working well. However, I have some network devices that don't co-operate very well :-(
Most devices supply a host-name that I can use to allocate the device to a particular pool of addresses and these update the DNS accordingly. There are some devices (Netgear WAPs) which do not supply a host-name but can be allocated to a pool via the hardware address, but do not have a DNS entry to easily manage the device. What I need to do, but have not found how, is to both provide a host-name through DHCP and automatically update the DNS with the details.
Using a host declaration, I can set a fixed-address and manually update the DNS, but I would prefer a mechanism that is fully dynamic.
Any suggestions or pointers welcomed.
As an aside, Netgear seem to be lacking in this area. Print servers work, WAPs will get an address but do not supply a host name (at least, I have not found how to get them to do so) and switches (FS526/726) when set to DHCP cannot find the server to get an address :-(
