My current fixed disc setup is this:

I gather that it would be better to have the hard disks on one IDE
channel, and the optical discs on the other, especially when backing up
/home onto DVD.
Assuming there is no physical or electronic damage, what sort of problems
can I look forward to when I boot up the new set-up for the first time? I
have SuSE 10.0, which has some trouble-shooting utilities on the install
disc.
Before you shut the machine down for the last time with this
configuration, make sure /etc/fstab reflects the new configuration.
You might want to remove or edit /etc/blkid.tab, but this might be a
RH/FC-only thing.
Make sure your grub.conf reflects the new config and make sure that it's
installed to the right place. Be especially careful with the hd(0,...) and
hd(1,...) bits.
Other than that, everything /should/ just work. I don't think I've
forgotten anything. No doubt someone will correct me if I have. :-)
Best Regards,
Alex.
