ISTR that you can place overrider files in the cups config directory
that override the settings in the cups mime filter settings, so when
you update your overrider files stay in place. I can't remember the
details though but I did get it from the documentation.

Yes, you are right, but I found that with this printer and also with an Epson Stylus C62, even though you specify '-o raw' in the config file it seemed to not work. From what I understand, you can specify in the config files that the output should be sent to the printer 'raw', but CUPS will not actually process raw output unless you tell it to in the mime.* files.
