Re: Belkin PCI wireless card not working

Well, there are two generations of drivers being developed for the
rt2500: the rt2500 driver, a debugged version of the manufacturer's
Linux driver, which works but doesn't support many rt2500 facilities and
the rt2x00 driver which is rewritten from scratch but not yet complete.

I haven't played with the (newer) rt2x00 driver for a few months; then
it didn't support WEP. But that is the one that does/will support WPA.

According to a Wiki page
"Under Breezy you should not need to [compile and install Rt2500 drivers]:
the drivers for the hardware come with the install, and natively support
both WEP and WPA security." And there definitely seem to be users who
have got WPA up and running.

However I've just read (with some head-scratching) a support forum
discussion ( http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=854 )
with a posting yesterday by the project administrator saying, "Ralink's
WPA implementation is very hard to understand. Best to rollback to WEP
until rt2x00 is released".

All very confusing.
