I have had similar experiences. People here are generally helpful, but in
some forums they treat you as if you are knowledgable and when you make
claim to being a newbie then they make out you are some kind of devils
spawn. I was once told that if I did not understand a certain thing then I
should not be using linux at all. Well how are people supposed to learn?
They forget they were newbies at one point aswell.
They can be quite intimidating which is why I now restrict my help centres
to only a few small places. I think the best place for help I have found so
far is the Ubuntu forums.
