I don't have an answer but I recently noticed the same problem with
fetchmail on Debian Sarge. I am sure that this wasn't a problem in the
past, when I would have been using whatever version came with Woody.
Sorry I can't help with an answer but frankly I'll be ditching fetchmail
soon and running my own MTA, I'd have done it ages ago but was overloaded
at w**k and didn't have time.
