2.6.0 was released in December 2003. I've been using 2.6 kernels with
Sarge in production for over a year now. As someone else already said,
better hardware support is one advantage. I'd go further than that, 2.6 is
still being developed, so you get other goodies/efficiencies and as 2.4
becomes more obsolete, fewer people are going to bother backporting
features to it.
The only problem I've had with 2.6 and the Debian install is with
Compaq/HP smartarrays - for some reason Grub will not install at first, so
I've had to use LILO and then replace it with Grub when the build's
complete.
