When my anti-virus programme (Kaspersky 7) does a scan of my

they are so that I can attempt to correct them. Is there a utility
out there that will scan my computer specifically for corrupt files
and identify them?

Yes, if you're under XP (and I think earlier versions of Windows) run
"sfc /scannow" (without inverted commas) and with a space before the
/ under XP (not necessary I think under 98)). Have your installation
disk handy as it'll ask for it if it needs to reinstall files.

Sfc stands for System File Checker, and will as its name suggests
check system files (though you can configure it to include other
types of files).

System file control actually.

/scannow is not necessary, and is not recognised, under Win98.

Ah yes, it's been a long time since I used or came across a W98.

I'll add though that (IIRC) under 98 you have to click on the 'options'
button and check the two options available otherwise, I think, it just
checks but doesn't do anything in particular.

There is no options button. There are buttons to Scan for altered
files (the default) and Extract one file from installation disc.

In 98 and XP, SFC is System File Checker. Are you perhaps using Vista?
