XP File and Printer Sharing is completely knackered. Make sure the
firewall on the computer hosting the folder has File and Printer Sharing
set as an exception in Windows Firewall and allowed in whatever 3rd

Also, go to the network connection, right click and select properties,
select TCP/IP protocol then Properties and under the WINS tab (I think -
currently in Linux so can't check) should be "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/
IP". Enable that.

Just to add, to speed up browsing, open up Windows Explorer on each
machine, go to Tools, Options, View Tab and uncheck the first box which
is something along the lines of "automatically find shared files and
printers"
