I have an old laptop with xp pro installed. Its a 233MMX chip and what with extra ram its been working well. However, one of the kids turned the thing off at the mains before the laptop had time to shut down and now I get the following messages on bootup -
"WARNING - NO BOOTABLE FLOPPY DRIVE 0 INSTALLED"

"WARNING FLOPPY CONTROLLER FAILED"

A chance for me to ask something I've been wondering about - do laptops have a cell to maintain the BIOS settings? If so, you could try (removing and) replacing it....

thanks everybody. yes ive tried the old cd in drive (xp install cd) and the instructions in bios, but with the instructions, there's no joy. Removing and relacing the CMOS battery is something ive not thought of. I assume laptops have one the same as desktops.

thx, will try it.
