Socket 754 isn't that rare: it's not current, but it was pretty
standard fare for a year or so. Also consider that if you've had two
boards fail, you may have (for example) a faulty power supply that's
causing them to blow...
They are unable to obtain this exact board, which yours is, so a dearer one
would be used which means recovery would be needed thus extra time, power
supply is changed as a routine.
They are seeing if any reduction in price can be made.
I will then decide if to DIY, with maybe a friends help, useing your source
of board, should price still be on the high side.
I did look at Staples and they have 5 models of HP computers between £220
and £300. Thus really all I would save with this high price repair is time
putting my programmes and back up data into a new PC.
We are certainly in a throw away society.
