Whether it should run as master or slave depends on the other item on
that particular IDE channel.

I THINK it is the DVD ROM Ed, will check and get back to you .... boot
sequence in BIOS is set to HD1 (Sata) - HD2 (ATA) - DVD ROM - Floppy
Ah so what you are thinking, and have got me thinking is that the DVD
is the master and is why my second disk goes missing .... or is it??

They'll show in your BIOS settings. Primary IDE master/slave; secondary IDE master/slave.
