A customer with a Vista PC has just started experiencing "Device
locked" popups from the system tray when he tries to access any drive
part from C: or network drives - this affects CD, Compact Flash
card-reader and USB memory stick. The "Computer" application (ie
Explorer!) shows a red no-entry sign over the affected drives.
I found this link Martin if you haven't come across it, it might help

There is mention of some Acer e-lock software whicjh seems to have caused
porblems
Looks very much like it. I'll pop in to the customer tomorrow and try
tweaking that software. Thanks for spotting that thread.
It's a shame that the pop-up doesn't display an Acer logo - at least then
I'd have known it was an Acer problem and not a Windows Vista one.
I've just been to the customer and tried eLock - and it solved the problem.
I've no idea how he managed to engage eLock in the first place - as far as
he can remember, all he was trying to do was install a package. OK, so it
(AutoCAD) turned out not to be compatible with Vista, but that shouldn't
have triggered eLock.
Thanks to everyone who pointed me in the right direction.
