A customer with a Vista PC has just started experiencing "Device
locked" popups from the system tray when he tries to access any drive
part from C: or network drives - this affects CD, Compact Flash
card-reader and USB memory stick. The "Computer" application (ie
Explorer!) shows a red no-entry sign over the affected drives.
In the case of the CD, Explorer can see the volume label and the
amount of free/used space, but fails to access the contents.
Everything works fine in Safe Mode.
He thinks the problem began when he tried to install an incompatible
version of AutoCad which aborted part-way through the installation.
I can't find any match on "device locked" on Microsoft, AutoCad or the
maker's (Acer) knowledge bases.
Has anyone got any suggestions?
I found this link Martin if you haven't come across it, it might help

There is mention of some Acer e-lock software whicjh seems to have caused
porblems
Looks very much like it. I'll pop in to the customer tomorrow and try
tweaking that software. Thanks for spotting that thread.
It's a shame that the pop-up doesn't display an Acer logo - at least then
I'd have known it was an Acer problem and not a Windows Vista one.
