I currently have two boxes connected using a Dynamode KVM switch. This
normally works well for me, but ATM I am testing a lot of Linux
distributions on one of the machines. The monitor type is not being
picked up during install, and I end up editing xorg.conf by hand.
If I connect the monitor directly, without the KVM, it gets picked up
every
time, but I don't want to keep plugging/unplugging the VGA cable each
time.
I'm guessing that the Dynamode does not transfer all the pins as it is
quite
an old one. Can anyone tell me if any other KVM's such as Belkin will
allow
the monitor to be auto-detected please?
The Belkin unit I use here, allows the monitors to auto detect just as if
they are connected direct. For best operation, I find it advantageous to
set one PC to 60 Hz refresh and the other to 72 Hz (it avoids a slight
shimer).
Many thanks.
Chris
