Re: Running Windows XP on Gateway GM5074b - PCI drivers

After my old PC died due to motherboard problems, I've just upgraded
to a Gateway GM5074b with Windows Vista, only to find that my current
ADSL modem (BT Voyager 105) is incompatible with Vista.

I'm changing broadband packages and getting a free wireless router
(hopefully) at the end of the month, but in the meantime, so that I
have internet access, I've put the hard drive from my old PC into the
new one as the master drive.

No major problems with that - Windows XP loads up from the drive just
fine, and most of the necessary device drivers installed fine for the
new hardware. However, a handful of devices remain that I cannot find
drivers for, including the onboard audio and the DVDRW drive.

According to Gateway's website

http://uk.gateway.com/products/prodDetails.html?prod=GM5074b

the PC uses the Intel® G965 (ViivT) chipset. I've tried downloading
and installing the drivers from Gateway's support site

http://uk.gateway.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=GM+Series&model=GM5074b

but Windows still can't find those last few drivers, even when I
point it to the newly-added directories. Are the remaining devices,
in fact, incompatible with XP, or do I just need to look harder?

Slight update: After downloading drivers from Intel's site rather than
Gateway, I now have audio, but I've still had no luck with the DVD drive, as
I can't determine what brand it is.
