I can tell, they don't offer a link on their IE6 web page to the
whole 80 MB download as an exe file. It turns out that if you run the

helper app with an obscure parameter /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E", it will
download the files without installing them on the download PC and without
customising them for that PC's OS.

The trick to get the full version of anything from MS, instead of an
online installer, is always to look for the one that says "Network
Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers".

Ah, that's the magic phrase to search for in MS's site: "Network
Installation". Thanks for that pointer.

I always do try to get full installation packages, because there are a lot
of cases where you use one computer (on broadband) to download in order to
install on another computer (with dial-up or maybe even no internet access
set up yet).
