I fancy setting up the second HD I've just installed (see previous
post) as a mounted drive for the 'My Documents' folder on the original
HD. But apparently I can only do this if the original 'My Documents'
folder is empty.
An Explorer search for 'My Documents' throws up 5 hits. One in
Desktop, one in Local Disk (C:)/Documents and Settings/Chris and
three hits in various 'send to' folders, all described as 'MyDocs Drop
Targets'. There's an additional copy in My Computer, but here it's
called 'Chris's Documents'. The first and last of all these are
short-cuts of one sort or another to the third in Documents and
Settings. In view of the reference in the 'send to' folders, I assume
these have been set up using 'send to'.
(I do find these multiple appearances of 'My Documents' a little
confusing!)
There is only one the others are shortcuts. If I remember correctly all I
did was highlight the my documents folder and move it I have always had my
data separate from the os system. My First came that way with 2 gb of the
8gb drive portioned for the my docs
My plan is to delete the two short-cuts; move all the folders in the
parent 'My Documents' to a temporary folder; set up the mounted drive
on the now-empty 'My Documents' folder and then move the contents back
from the temporary folder. I can then set up any new short-cuts that I
want, if any.
But will it work? Or will all the pointers to the various folders and
files in 'My Documents' get screwed up when I start moving them
around, causing chaos elsewhere?
