Which ones do you recommend? Most modern ext. hard drives seem to be only
compatible with XP or 2000. I really want a 400mb size disk or
thereabouts
to accomodate all my photos and music
Windows ME, XP (and presumably Vista) all support USB (and Firewire)
connected hard drives out of the box. Windows ME requires that the drive be
formatted in FAT32, XP and Vista will also work with NTFS formatted drives.
A firewire drive is preferable as it works faster and is not subject to hold
ups if the CPU is heavily loaded.
These drives are also compatible with earlier versions of Windows that fully
support USB (Win 98SE and later) and Firewire (Win 98SE and later), but a
suitable driver is required, which the drive manufacturer may, or may not,
provide.
