"Responding to customer demand Dell has restarted selling new PCs with
Windows XP installed on them.

The decision reverses a policy begun in January that meant Windows Vista
was the only operating system available on almost all new home machines.

The change came after Dell's feedback site was swamped with calls for the
return of the venerable software.

Now customers can opt for the Home or Professional version of XP on six
models of Dell machines."

Good. I was looking to buy a couple of PC's for a client but almost
everything was Vista, but as most of my uses for PC's involve things
that only run on XP, and in some cases 2000, that's not much use. I
don't see why we can't have a transitional period rather than just
dropping XP one day and shipping every PC the world over with Vista
installed the next.

I wish I didn't have to rely on MS.

More powerful is not for your use. It is for Vista use.
A performer will use less for more.
Why spend spend more for just a new graphically ehanced XP ?
Security patches are for free... And must remain for free.
If MS is not able to create a reliable OS there is maybe a reason why.
The reason might bear the name of Dollar... Or maybe they don't know how to
build a real OS...
Eventually a company can produce a more reliable OS for less.
We know that now. A more reliable OS made for everyone. I don't say this
might be Linux. Because it is not on manufacturer advantage to choose
Linux. But Linux is a good example of it.Maybe it is time for MS to stop to
bully and steal our energy and our money.
