It is the ratio of the height and width of the screen, another way would be 1:1.33
I see what you mean, the x to y ratio. A television thing, but
I don't think it's applicable to the size of a computer screen.
These are measured diagonally, and very often rather inaccurately.
Jim/Al TV and computer screens have been measured diagonally since the invention of the cathode ray tube, because they were circular.
Quite how the measurements of modern screen are decided, I have no idea.
