Perhaps I should stick with my "old fashioned"and flickering, CRT
monitor after all, better the devil you know.....
Is it flickering because of a fault, or because the refresh rate is
too low? Some CRT's knock spots off TFT displays, so don't be too
hasty...
I'd say *all* CRTs are better at displaying pictures than TFT displays: they
seem to be able to give better subtlety in highlights and shadows.
TFTs' main strengths are slim size and light weight, accurate geometry and
registration of the three colours (pincushion distortion and mis-registered
colours "cannot happen" with TFTs); their weakness (still) is the accuracy
of photo/video rendition.
I find that a good CRT is easier on the eyes, especially one with a shadow
mask where the phosphors are arranged in a triangle rather than a
Diamondtron/Trinitron where tehy are arranged side by side. TFT screens have
such sharp edges on the pixels than I find they cause eyestrain after an hor
or so, whereas I can use my Iiyama or Mitsubishi CRT monitors all day
without any problem.
If your CRT is flickering, try increasing the refresh rate to the highest
that the card and monitor will support: at least 72 Hz and preferably 85 or
100 Hz.
