I have btopenworld as my ip. They have recently offered me 8 MHz. connection speed if I sign up for a new 12 month contract, at the same price I am currently paying, but I smell a rat.
As many of you know, there is about to be a broad band price war. If BT enter this war, will it mean that...
I am stuck in a contract for 12 months before my payments reduce, or will they reduce the amount I pay as soon as they drop the price of my present contract?
I am loath to upgrade and commit to a new contract if I get locked into the old price.

The only possible reason that BT have offered you this new contract is that they stand to make more money out of you than if you stay on your current contract. Read the terms and conditions of the new contract as these will be legally binding if you sign up.
A good point :-)
Now why didn't I think of that? My excuse is that it was late, I have hay fever and the bottle was only half full ;-)
