I remember my older sister saving up for one of those plug in clocks with
the flip over white digits on metal black plates, it was really expensive at
the time. Lit up with a little neon bulb at the bottom. Then she complained
because it would keep her awake at night in her bedroom because of the
whirring/buzzing of the synchronised motor and then waiting for the numbers
to flip over to the next one - like water torture! - this was way long
before LED bedside clocks came on the scene.
