First steps I'd try:
* Disconnect device and reboot.
* Study Device Manager (DM) to see if any trace of the device or its
connection remains, and use DM to remove if found.
* Use DM to remove the modem. The drivers are on the machine (or it
wouldn't have worked). Windows will re-detect it on the next boot and load
the drivers.

Got a small problem with a friends PC as follows:
PC is a HP 2400ish [didn't quite note exact spec] runing XP pro os and
a DUN internet connection to Tiscali dial up via a 56K pci modem which
apparently was all working correctly prior to this..
User bought a Road Angel GPS
http://road-angel.intranetics.co.uk/road-angel-navigator.htm
just like this one and in an attempt to get software updates plugged
same into a USB port with a view to registering the same and getting
updates.
Apparently, whilst attempting to register, didn't work so switched off
machine with view to trying again later and since that day, Tiscali
Dun has not worked reporting error message that modem com port 3 has
been taken over by another device. [phone line fine as will dail out
on same dun via laptop]
Despite an attempt to remove "Road Angel software" via control
panel/ad remove software [which worked] once in my computer under
hdds/cds floppy etc we still have "other" and in that "Mobile Device"
I was going to go for a reinstall of said pci modem [but user doesn't
have modem driver disk to hand] so am waiting for that to be found.
Any idea how I remove the "mobile device" as a right click doesn't
have a delete option?
