Go home tonight, having left my PC on, and got no response from either the

No response from Contr+Alt+Del.
Pressed the off switch. Got a message about another user logged on losing
their work (no-one AFAIK). Still no response at the keyboard, so had to
switch off at the surge protector.
Switched back on, and everything works OK.
Anyone got any ideas !
I've also been getting multiple IE6 pages opening causing crashing, which
the MS site says could be due to Add-ons (can't see any suspicious ones).
Sys details;
P4
XP Home
IE6
Dial-up
Cordless Optical Mouse and Keyboard (batteries OK)
Avast 4 from AVG
Only Windows Firewall
MS Spyware
Spybot Search & Destroy
Spyware Doctor
Sometimes:
The car won't start first time or
You cut yourself shaving or
You slip on a polished floor and fall arse over tit or
Windows hangs for no apparent reason.
These things just happen. Switch off and back on again. Get on with
your life.
Your IE6 problem should not be happening, and sounds like a problem
with one of your (many) popup blockers.
I would uninstall your spyware programs and then reinstall one at a
time to see if the problem goes away. While you are at it Yahoo
Toolbar also is supposed to cause problems with IE6. Uninstall that
too if you have it.
The most important sys item, which you did not mention, is Memory. Do
you have enough? I believe that Spyware Doctor, in particular, is a
terrible resource hog, and you may simply be running out of resources.
(You can usually tell because your hard disc starts whirring, since
windows will start using this when it gets low on system memory)
I hope this helps.
Thanks John
1. I'm not using Yahoo Toolbar, but I do have Yahoo Messenger installed.
Could that be the problem. I'm using Google toolbar btw.
2. OK, I'll uninstall the Spyware, but which one shall I try first ? Do I
only need to use one anyway ? In the light of what you've said, maybe I'll
uninstall Spyware Doctor !
3. 512mg Memory. Intend to upgrade to 1 gig, but haven't got round to it
yet, and ab it worried about the warranty if I open the box. Haven't
noticed much hard disc noise.
