You don't need an installation cd for a router, thats the beuty of them.
Indeed, but some do come with an installation CD, such as the ActionTec I setup for a friend recently, but they are just a 'wizard' to take you step-by-step through the setup.
Look at Jeffs post, I think that might be your answer.
Agreed. If he was previously using a USB modem then his PC's IP address will be a public one, i.e. the one assigned by his ISP, and so in a different sub-net.
