I'm trying to find out what I need to buy to make my laptop wireless
throughout the house.
Currently I have a Speedtouch 330 "modem" connected to my main pc
upstairs. This is networked via a CAT5 cable to a point in the living room
downstairs for my Toshiba Satellite laptop. This is a pain in the bum as
the cable keeps getting pulled out by the bloody dogs and I can't take the
laptop into the kitchen or garden.
The laptop has a wireless LAN built in. The manual says it's IEEE 802.11
and has an automatic transmit rate select mechanism in the range of 11,
5.5, 2, and 1Mbit/s.
Any advice along the lines of "You need THIS and THIS and they plug in
HERE and HERE" would be most appreciated. There's tons of stuff related to
this on ebay but I've not much idea what works with what and why.

Look here http://tinyurl.com/qltyj for a selection of wireless ADSL
Bbroadband modem routers. These will replace your existing modem,
alternatively fit your main PC with a wireless network card and use internet
connection sharing, if you are using windows.
