In theory, yes. In practice, it depends on the SATA controller/
chipset and the particular brand of SATA 300 HD.
For instance, if you have the nForce4 chipset and a Maxtor
drive, you'll probably have to disable NCQ (native command
queueing) by a using jumper on the drive.
Best to google with your mobo/chipset and HD model to look
for any problems.

Yes .. Thanks Rob. Mind you I can get a SATA2 controller card delivered
for £18 so I might just well do that and untilise the full potential
of the drive at 3.0 G/bs .... I hope
