Does anybody know how do convert a streaming address to the MP3 address?
For example; http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/inourtime/ram/inourtime_20020613.ram
But if I want to download it for offline listening??
I can save files locally, but only at the streaming speed, ie. I have to record them. It would be much quicker to download.
Open the .ram file in Notepad - it will be one line long, and the line is a URL. Copy the URL from there. Use XiSoft NetTransport 2 (Free!) and put in that URL from inside the .ram file. 30min Radio 4 programmes take about 4/5 mins to download on my 1meg broadband.
rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio4/history/inourtime/inourtime_20020613.ra is the link to your example above - put that into NetTransport and it will download the whole .ra file for you to listen to offline.
Net Transport link: http://www.xi-soft.com/default.htm
The reason you need to use software like this, rather than just IE, is because of the rtsp protocol. Be aware that Net Transport can get a bit posessive and try to take over all your downloads, but it can be configured to stop that!!
Hope that helps,
D.
Thanks for that. I might try it. But I'd prefer to use programs I already have; and I've got quite a few.
What's the problem with this algorithm? What you call "the rtsp protocol". If XiSoft can reach it, why can't I jig other programs to do the same?
I suppose it depends on what format they hold the files on the server. Now, I'm pretty sure it's MP3 here, just as with the vast majority of other web streaming sources.
So (and I have 1mb broadband like you) I need a generally applicable conversion method; from the RAM address to the actual MP3 file.
