I suppose it is possible that the CD ROM driver on the recovery floppy
is not compatible with your drive, although it's a pretty generic
driver.
The CD itself could be dirty/scratched/defective - can you try to read
it in another PC?
Have you a friend with a PC that could help you make a custom boot
floppy with the proper drivers on it?
I am still sceptical about booting from a W98 CD, although Dave
disagrees with me :-) The presence of an autorun.inf file means it
should autostart in Windows but not that it is bootable.
