Audio problem...still!

Ooer.

My pc (XP SP2) will play MP3s but there are no system sounds, no website
sounds/music, no mouse click "clicks" etc. If I go into Control Panel to
preview the system sounds the Play button is greyed out.

I've searched for .wav files and Windows Media Player plays them - even the
system sounds.

I've re-installed the driver from the original disk and re-booted. The sound
card is an Avance AC'97.

It's as though the pc's trying to play the sounds through something else
though because the default sound player in CP is the soundcard but the
recorder is "Camera". MIDI playback doesn't show a device at all, neither
does voice playback. If I choose the soundcard from the drop-down list and
ok it, it's back to the way it was when I next reboot.

I think I'll remove the webcam and then find that I've just wasted five
minutes typing this out :)
