I'm embarrassed to say that in the many years I've used OE - and visited the
Maintenance page to do a Clean Up Now - I've never noticed the log file
options.
I've got a nasty OE problem with sending emails and the logs may well give
me some idea of how far it's getting. Thanks for the pointer!
The log files are called pop3.log, smtp.log (and no doubt nntp.log etc,
though I haven't tried that) and they seem to be put in the same directory
as the email data (.dbx) files - which by default is somewhere deep under
Documents and Settings. The path name is shown by pressing Store Folder on
the maintenance page.
Your problem sounds very odd. I hope the logs show something useful for you.
I wonder if it's worth you comparing the email entry (including all the
headers) for a new message and for a reply. You might find something useful
there, though sorting the wheat from the chaff could be a problem. You can
see the headers by highlighting the message, then doing Properties | Details
| Message Source. You can then do Ctrl-A to select all the text and Ctrl-C
to copy it so you can paster it into a text file. Do that for the new and
reply emails and then compare them using Windiff - or by eye!
