Firewire problem

I got myself a firewire card and have slotted it into the pc, which has
recognised it. XP didn't make a song and dance about it like it usually does
("'ERE! YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WOT I FOUND IN YOUR PC!?"), the card has just
appeared in the device manager.
I've plugged in the cable which came with it (one big end, t'other small)
and plugged the other end into my DV camcorder but that's as far as it
goes - the camcorder isn't "seen" and doesn't appear in Movie Maker, just my
webcam as before.
I noticed that the card has two large external sockets, one internal large
socket, and one small external (4 pin) socket. The camcorder has a 4 pin
output so do I need a 4 pin to 4 pin cable or is there something I've not
done?
